ANNUAL HAWAIIAN HOOK IN
2009 - Hooking Outside the Box
Feb. 18th, 19th & 20th 2009
9 am to 3:30 pm each day
Teachers skilled in all aspects of hooking, from wild contemporary to fine tapestry shading, will be on hand to guide and inspire you on the beautiful island of Maui.
Throughout each day you may choose to hook on your own project or take a variety of creative classes. All three teachers and all classes are open to all participants - a new and creative format.
Hook under a palm tree, or on the lanai. Sip tropical iced tea.
Swap ideas and inspiration. Be open to stretching your creativity.
Bring a design pad and pencil. Sketch the sunset over the ocean,
or a rainbow over the West Maui Mountains. It might be just right
for a "Memory
of Maui" mat. Bring an open mind and heart. Be ready to leap "outside
the box".
Classes will include:
• Color Planning with Rules & No Rules
• Hooking Faces Like Never Before!
• Two Free, Easy and New Dye Classes for wool and yarn
• Hooking on the Wild Side - Unusual hooking techniques and fabrics
• Hooking Purses and Bags with creative shapes and patterns
The Workshop will be held on Maui, at the fiber art studio of Sharon Faith. A list of accommodations is available upon request.
Lunches provided each day. Nancy Powers from Minnesota promises to treat us royally once again!
Fee is $195 with $50 deposit at time of registration. Cancelations may be made up to one month before the event.
TEACHERS:
Sharon Faith is known
for her use of unusual fabrics and her unique hooking technique.
She will lead classes in "Contemporary Techniques for Hooking
with Unusual Fabrics", "Hooking Without Straight Lines to
Create Motion" and "Creating a Fabulous Purse" (not
the usual square bag).
Diane S. Learmonth from Anacortes, WA
is a McGown certified teacher who specializes in Contemporary Folk Art. Consequently
Diane can teach anything rug hooking wise, but likes the creative art of it.
The sky is the limit, she has no rules and her motto is "Why not?" One
of her classes will be "Creating Faces" (see photo to the right for
example of her amazing faces artwork).
This will include traditional as well as unique faces. She is in demand for these
highly acclaimed classes and is a truly inspired and joy filled teacher.
Diane Phillips of Rochester is an internationally known teacher whose paintbrush is a hand-held hook. Hand dyed wool gives her artistic pieces depth and texture. Her current favorite subject is portraits. Eyes, expression, skin tones, wrinkles, all conspire to tell a story. For six years Diane directed "Hooked in the Mountains Rug School" in Vermont. Diane's work has appeared in several books and magazines.
Keep watch for more information about classes and teachers as it develops. Sharon promises lots of new ideas, techniques and inspiration for this annual event.
